If I were fishing here
If I were fishing Greystones Harbour & Pier, I'd keep the first rod simple: short casts, fresh bait, and watch the water for mackerel movement before I change anything.
I'd skip when…
I'd skip when swell is up, the rock is greasy, or I'm fishing alone. Greystones Harbour & Pier does not forgive a casual call.
When it fishes well
All states produce fish. Bites cluster in the hour either side of high water and on the tide turn. Eging for squid best at dusk into dark on slack water. High water brings fish right up to the pier wall for wrasse and pollack; low water concentrates flounder in the harbour channel.
Sheltered marina pier, family friendly, mackerel in summer and a genuine autumn squid fishery on egi.
