Ennereilly Strand South

Guide last updated 12 June 2026Live score checked today

You can catch Bass, Smoothhound and Flounder here. Bring lugworm or peeler crab, and fish a pulley rig.

A wild, remote sandy shallow beach south of Brittas Bay, separated from Ennereilly Strand North by the Ennereilly River (sea trout run). The lack of fishing pressure means the fish are less wary than at more popular marks. Bass through April to November (peak autumn Sep to Nov) is the documented core fishery; smoothhound on evening tides May to October on crab. Set realistic expectations: bass average around 3 lb with occasional bigger fish, this is a numbers-of-quality-fish venue, not a specimen-bass venue.

Today's conditions at Ennereilly Strand South suit a pulley pennel rig. A heavy-duty distance rig that protects large soft baits during the cast. The hooklink slides through a pulley swivel so bait and hooks lift on splash-down while the lead anchors.

Fishing it

Tide, tactics, and local read

If I were fishing here

If I were fishing Ennereilly Strand South, I'd walk the tide line first, find the gutter or colour, then fish bass with one honest flood or ebb rather than casting blind for hours.

I'd skip when…

I'd skip a dumping shore-break, a hard onshore gale that fills the gutters with weed, or a dead slack with no colour.

When it fishes well

The hour either side of low and high water are the documented feeding times here, more specific than a generic flooding-tide window. Dawn sessions on a flooding spring tide in summer are the most productive. Baits fished close in catch the bass; baits at distance reach hounds and rays.

Remote southerly beach, bass April to November (peak Sep to Nov), evening smoothhound on crab when the sea is settled.

Baits

  • Lugworm (the documented best all-round bait here)
  • Peeler crab (smoothhound on evening tides)
  • Worm and fish baits for general species

Methods

  • Pulley rig (rays/hounds at distance)
  • Running ledger close in (bass)
  • Lures (bass close in)
