How to tie a two-hook clipped-down rig
Released. On impact both snoods unclip and swing out. You get flapper presentation with clipped-rig distance, which is the whole trade.

Tie it
- Two take-offs on the body, well spaced.
- Bait clip below each one.
- Cut each 20 to 30 lb snood to reach its own clip and no further.
- Clip both hooks in before the cast.
- Bait, clip, cast, and check both released on retrieve.
Each snood is cut to its own clip. Swapping snoods between positions is the usual reason a clipped rig will not clip.
When to fish the two hook clipped down
Two baits, both clipped down: the distance of a clipped rig with the searching power of two hooks. It is the tournament-style answer for cod, bass and whiting at range on clean ground, where reaching the fish and offering them a choice both matter.
When to leave it in the box
It takes the longest to rig and bait of the clean-ground set, and over rough ground two clipped hooks are a liability. At short range a flapper does the same job with less fuss.
How it goes wrong
- Clips set in the wrong place for the snood lengths, so one bait always flies loose.
- Baiting in a hurry and leaving one clip empty, which unbalances the rig in flight.
- Fishing it over snags, where it loses two baits and a lot of terminal tackle at once.
